I am looking for an open trailer, dual axle, big and beefy enough to haul big Cadillacs and other cars.
I live near Phila Pa, so anything within a day's drive would be great.
Please send info to rachlin@comcast.net.
Thanks,
Brian

When I was looking for a trailer last summer, for $500 more I bought brand new instead. It's a 21' equipment hauler rated for 12,000lbs. I looked at car haulers and didn't like the 15" wheels and short beaver tail and ramps. I would have been pushing the limits of a car hauler. Going into the equipment hauler, I got 5' ramps, 16" wheels with tires built for the load, and a 4' beaver tail. Electric brakes in both axles too. Some car haulers will give you brakes on only one axle.
It hauls like a dream. Set me back $4500 + tax and tags. Likely cheaper in the US than here in Canada.

Nice trailer, Dan! I'd like to comment on the layout. The axles are far enough back that one can open and close the car doors. I've seen (and rented) trailers that the wheels or fenders force you to put the load way off balance to get in or out, or risk dinging the doors up trying to squeeze in. Yours makes sense.

Thanks Joe. I also use it to haul my 63 Impala from time to time. Thats what I like about it - I can position the load where I can still get out butnotput too much weight on the tongue.
Ill keep the in mind for sure.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Brian, found this in Wisconsin here. Maybe something like it by you.

The 20 ft one with fold down ramps is $3000.00
food for thought.

Brian,
I have a friend who had his car trailer custom made and as far as I am concerned it was well worth the extra price. It has some special features that I like.
1. Fold down fender over the wheels so you can open the doors. (If you can get out of the car on most trailers you have passed the center of gravity and overloaded the hitch)
2. Wind and gravel shield in front. Very nice option in my mind and could even add fuel economy.
3. Large built in locking tool storage and storage for folding chairs and other car show paraphernalia.
4. Locking spare tire mounting.
5. A nice custom color paint job. Usually the best looking trailer in the trailer queen parking area at any car show.
I have a small enclosed trailer that I do not like as it is too small so I have to winch the cars in, and an equipment trailer for my business. When I use the equipment trailer for a car I put a couple of planks under the wheels on the drivers side to raise the car enough to get out through the door. This looks funny but it works. Now that I am retired I plan on selling both of my trailers and getting one made.
In a slow economy you could probably find a shop selling trailers on line or in your area and order exactly what you want for little more than any good new trailer would cost.
That's good advice.
What I am doing is this...
My brother in law is a big Packard collector. He just bought a very nice used Ram 2500 truck that all set up for towing. He is also buying a 24 foot enclosed trailer. He said that I can used the rig any time I might need it.
He owns a cemetery and has a lot or room to park things.
I told him that I would buy an open trailer to leave there for him to use in case he needs to move a car or some equipment around locally. I also buy and sell cars here and there and a trailer and truck would come in very handy.
Since I will be using the open trailer for local stuff and using the enclosed trailer to go to a GN if I don't want to drive one of my Cadillacs I'd like to get something nice but of will do a lot of sitting.
Ill look into a new custom trailer bit if a clean used one comes up I'd be interested.
Thanks
Brian
