Title: 1961 Cruise Control Lower Speedometer Cable
Post by: Dan LeBlanc on March 17, 2014, 11:42:45 AM
I know this may be a long shot, but. . .

Does anyone with a master parts book check to see if it shows the correct length and size of the ends for the lower speedometer speedometer for all series except 75 and CC for the lower speedometer cable when cruise control is used?

Now I'll really try and push my luck - anyone with a Hollanders manual have a listing if it interchanges with anything else?

I can't find my lower cable and am looking to get one made.

Thanks a ton!

Ihave the master parts book but it does not show the length or size end.  It also shows a different part from 1959/60 to 1961 to 1962 to 1963/64:

Under group 3.880
1959-1960  Part # 158 7267
1961 Part # 565 5615
1962 Part # 640 5201
1963 thru 1964, 65-75 Part # 640 9436

I have the cables for the 63/64 but looks like they were constantly redesigning these units.

Thanks Jason

1959-61, the units were mounted to the head and these cables would be the shorter ones.

1962+ the cables would be longer to reach the unit mounted on the inner fender.  If I knew I could take up the slack somehow or have the cable cut and the end reattached, I'd take a chance on a newer cable.

The way this will all play out, I'll find one somewhere, it'll get mailed, and then I'll find the one I have somewhere that I can't find now.

Unfortunately the best way to replace them is to take the cable(s) off the car, photograph the ends and measure the length - some cable rebuilders only will deal with the actual cable in hand to duplicate.  I'm going thru the exact same thing with a 67 Cadillac, after considerable research this is how I have to proceed.

I just got an email 2 minutes ago from Arizona Vintage Parts saying they have a good used one. Guess I got lucky.
