If you send the sending unit out for repair what do you do with the gas tank ,do you have to leave it out of the car.how long to repair it
Jim
What's the gauge doing or not doing. ?
The entire cluster would have to be serviced if the digital fuel display is not working.
If you explain what the problem is we may have some suggestions.
If you remove the sender the tank needs to come out.
You can get a new sender and remove the tank and replace the sender and reinstall it.
Brian
Brian, the fuel gage stays on empty. There are the 2 lines on the bottom like the fsm says is an open circuit, don't know where to start. Need help hate to have to remove the tank and leave it out of car until I get the sending unit repaired
If the tank is completely full, it will also display --.
It's a quirk that these digital units do.
Starts out at --. then will say "FULL" after a few miles, then 18, and countdown.
Is your tank full?
Brian
Brian, yes it is full. It never shows anything except the 2 lines on the bottom. I unplugged the connector by the back bumper and sprayed some dielectric electrical connector cleaner but nothing happened. I don't know if it is the sending unit in the gas tank or the digital display or something else. I keep the car full so I don't run out of gas.thanks for any help jimbo
The shop manual states that if you have "--" all the time then you have a open circuit caused by a bad sender, or sender lead wiring/connectors.
I get the "--" only when I first fill up the tank, I figure there is a dead spot in the sender at the top of its travel.
Jeremy
Many of them do the --- when its completely full.
Brian
So is the sender in the gas tank.thanks ,where would I start to look for an open circuit.thanks jimbo
The sender is in the gas tank.
Since you will need to siphon or pump out some fuel to drop the tank, if you know it's full maybe remove some fuel or drive the car to see if it goes down and starts reading properly.
Brian
When I first got the car I filled it up and drove it until the car was almost empty or close to it anyway and the fuel gage didn,t move.thanks jimbo
