Title: 39 LaSalle floor mats
Post by: ederm on March 12, 2016, 04:31:42 PM
Where can I acquire a brown rubber floor mat for '39 convertible LaSalle coupe series 50? I contacted Bob's Buick but his supplier went bankrupt and the dyes are missing and he did not know what model Buick will fit the 39 LaSalle series 50.  Would greatly appreciate any help.

If you could get them the 40 or 60 series Buick uses the same body. Special or Century coupes.

Bob's Buick has the mats for the 37 and 38 but in 39 GM had a new body. Anyone know if the floor plan was the same for the '39 and 40 series 50 LaSalle? If one is available, would it need to be uncut???

Things got more complicated in 1941 with three different bodies. A,B & C.    I don't know if that included 1940?

In 1939/40, GM used their "B" body on the Senior Pontiac/Olds, and Buick Special/Century, LaSalle 50, and 1939 Cadillac Series 61.

The floor mats from Bob's are uncut. They are bigger than the floor so the edges need to be trimmed to fit and the steering column and the pedal holes and dimmer switch need to be cut in too. Best done with the seat out in my opinion. Mine was a 39 LaSalle convertible sedan.

I think it would be easier with the pedals and other impediments out to if the car is at the pre-assemble stage, fit the mat and mark the placement holes from underneath through the floor holes and cut them out, then put in the parts.

Does anyone know if the '37-'38 Buick 40- 60 series uncut floor mat that Bob's Buick has will fit the '39 LaSalle 50 series? Thanks, Mike

What about my post didn't you get? GM "B" bodies from 1939/40...I.E. 1939/40 Buick Special/Century used the same body shell as the 1939 Series 50 LaSalle. So, if you bought a carpet made to fit 1939/1940 Buick Special/Century cars, it should, with some modification, fit your 1939 LaSalle. NOT a carpet from a 1937/38 Buick. Best of luck.

The easiest way to understand GM's body shell usage is to go to the various pages on line and study the cars from the cowl/windshield (or "A" pillar) back. You will find that a 1939 Buick Special looks very much like a 1939 LaSalle from the windshield back. Ditto the more expensive Pontiac/Olds from the same year.

In a nutshell, you need to purchase a Buick carpet for a 1939 Buick Special.

Thanks to all for the thoughts and advice. Bob's Buick is not able to get mats that will fit a '39 40-60  series Buick. I also tried Bell's in Florida. I also posted a want ad for a used one.  Is anyone aware of any other suppliers?  Thanks again. Mike

Mike, Given your problem, you might consider using Bill Hirsch's "hogshair" carpet. This was the material used in the carpet portion of the rubber/carpet combination. We also have a gentleman in Ohio that fully restored a car like yours. I believe that he is Fred Zwicker.

He has a web site and a means of contacting him. www.fzoldcars.com

Good luck. Barry.
