I was about to put my fuel tank back in, but the gasket or o-ring for the sending unit sure seems old and dry.
I can't find it at rockauto, amazon, or autozone. I've tested the sending unit, and it still seems to have the proper range and floats well.
Also, when I undid the bolts, the nut built into the clip holding the tank came undone. Is there somewhere I can find these (I don't even know what they're called to search with!)
thanks
hawk, eager to get it in and get back on the road
That O ring is not too special, I will have to do some digging but I found a place that sold them when I was working on a car last year that had one on the filler neck. I remember their catalog had the sending unit ones too. They even had the wax like stuff that was used on many of them for extra sealing. I want to say it turned out to be a place that specialized in Pontiac or Olds stuff. They also had the parts to reseal the 50's power steering pumps which seemed to not exist from most other sources. If anyone else knows of a or the place feel free to post it, I won't feel bad.
Not sure what nut you are tanking about. Where the strap bolts thread in?

Thanks. The Bosch one I see on amazon sure looks like, but get's a big "doesn't" from them.

Yes, that pair.
I was amazed at how easy it was to drop the tank (once I figured out there was a second ground that the sho[p manual didn't mention . . .)
And while I'm at it . . . I need to find a source for the OEM style hose clamps; all I can find is the ones with screws.
The spring clamp ones? If so some places call them fuel injection clamps. I think the 'Help!' line has an assortment many stores carry.
I'm not having any luck finding the name of that site I found last year all the o rings and stuff. Thought I had it bookmarked but apparently not. I'm thinking their specialty was post war to 70's Olds or maybe Buick but their tank O ring section did list other makes.
Once you described it like that, I thought of usaparsupply.com . . . who seems to have it for $1.95 --plus $11 in shipping and insurance!

Fusick is the Olds supplier. www.fusick.com (http://www.fusick.com)
Looks like a useful supplier.
Thanks, I'll add them to my list.
But as far as I can find, they only have full sending units, not separate gaskets . . .
For folks hitting this doing future research . . .
While I didn't find the others, I found the clips at Napa (after more than one trip; they weren't out at the closest one, but today someone knew what to look up).
A bag of four, part 665-1959, was about $7, "Extruded U nuts" from Balkamp. Picture of bag attached.
