Title: 1939 lasalle series 50 convert restoration

Hello all, we are currently balls deep into this cars restoration. The owner is having us put an original set of fender mounts on car.
My question is according to the assembly.manual there are spring spacers used with fender mounts.
Any feed back on how thick spacers are would be great. The springs that were in it were already quite beefy, front end sat pretty high (did not measure ride height before disassemble). I will post some pics as soon as i figure out how.

People on this forum love pictures even of projects during restoration! You can consider that a hint by the way!

Jeff,

I have a 38 model 50 with sidemounts.  The factory used two different springs on 38 cars with sidemounts, normal springs with spacers and later on, special springs without spacers.  On my car they seem to have used the the normal springs with spacers.  I,m not at home right now so I can't give you the part numbers but the spacers are 1/8 in. thick flat rings and they used two under each front spring.  I've since had new springs made to the factory specifications for the later springs so I have not re-used the spacers.  A quarter inch of spacers under the springs doesn't seem like much and in fact you may find that you don't really need spacers.  Try it and see, they are not that hard to add after the fact if the ride height isn't right.

The owner of the car is a great guy,and thorough! He gave us the original parts interchange, assembly manual,and A-LOT of factory data books,optional equip. manuals ect.
Found an old post about springs, then went to the trusty assembly manual and all you guys info jived.
Free height of front springs with 4 wheels is 14 7/8 with 6 wheels its 15 7/8
our springs are 16" so I rolled with it and put em back in.
