Hi everyone, I just bought a 1950 Cadillac 4 door, Series 62 with only 19084 miles on it! It seems to need transmission fluid, and, I can't find the fill. I looked under the carpet, on the driver's side. I did come up with the brake reservoir, but, no trans dipstick. Can anyone help? Thanks.
You just looked on the wrong side under the carpet.
Thanks, I'll check the other side!
Found it! Just about in the center, but accessible from passenger side. There is a red cover that says "Use only GM Trans fluid etc..." There is another cover above that, probably the first time it was ever off. There is a big nut under there...??? Thanks again!!!
two of them,,, band adjustments

What color is your transmission fluid? I could be wrong, but I don't think they started dying it red yet. You might still have whale oil in there.
Oh, that's interesting. I will check the color, and, report back. It will take a while, maybe Friday, I think. It gets dark by the time I get home from work now.
I took the Cadillac for a 2 mile ride, checked the trans fluid. It is a pale yellow. I even put new fluid on the rag, the new fluid was red, the fluid in the car was pale yellow.
Pale yellow was the color when I drained a 1950 Olds Hydra-Matic that had been sitting for many years. If it were me, and the fluid is in good condition, I might keep it that way, but if I ever had to add, I'd drain it and start over with Dexron III. Perhaps others more experienced than I will chime in.
