Hello,
Started working on my 37 LaSalle coupe a little while back. The car sat for 10 years in a garage on jack stands and was pretty much left alone. Previous owner did a body off restoration and then got sick and was in a nursing home. Brought car home and found right off that it had coolant in the oil. Removed the heads and found one cylinder had a crack and another had been scored by a broken ring. I have a guy who can rebuild the engine ,but will magnaflux it first. If it has more cracks or other issues, I may be better off finding a good block and go from there. My question is did LaSalle use the same 322 from 37-40? Does anyone in the group know of any suppliers or have a good block to sell, should I need to go that route? I kind of expected something like this might happen, but the rest of the car was in such good condition that I really couldn't pass it up. Many thanks in advance! Paul
Hi Paul,
37 is different than all the other years. You can use other years, but the cranks are different, starters are different, flywheels, dipstick etc. There are a lot of variables you need to be aware of, but you can do it. You can even use a 345, but of you do make sure you get the 345 flywheel and pressure plate with it.
Regards

My engine guy will magnaflux the engine early this week and hopefully it can still be used. Otherwise I will keep looking. Thanks.
Did you talk to this guy?
