Title: 1972 Eldorado Accessory Codes
Post by: The Tassie Devil(le) on March 06, 2018, 05:33:40 PM
G'day all,

I have been deciphering my Accessory Codes that are on the Data Plate, and have everyone done, except for the letter "S"

My Codes are EXVSLFKIB.

The "S" code according to the book says it is for the Power Sun Roof, and as my car is a Convertible, and the power roof would be sort of standard, I was wondering what the S might have been for.

There are a couple more options that are on the car, but no mentioning of them on the plate.

These are Autronic Eye, Twilight Sentinal, Cruise Control, Heated rear window.

Any idea why these idintifying letters would be missing from the list?

Thanks,

Bruce. >:D

Darn good question. My 1972 Eldorado Convertible codes are AM6 EXVSL KRB CJ . And for another quiz problem my car does not have Track Master brakes yet I have the X on my body plate? Further my plate states 09D and FWD 001605 Veh. Id No. 6L67S2Q405116. Announcement day for 1972 Cadillac's was 9-23-71. So I think my car was ordered on or about announcement day as the car was assembled during the 4th. week of September 1971. 73 A PNT. Trim 454 . The strange thing about my car is that the original owner ordered everything you could order except Track Master and ordered only the Am,Fm Mono radio and No outside right hand mirror.

One more thing. When I had my car repainted I did not want Cambridge red. That original color was a flat brick red. I wanted the car I fell in Love with in 1972 when I first opened the catalogue when I was age 18 , Coronation Red so I matched the Coronation Red paint sample chip as closely as I could with a modern color in base coat , clear coat. The paint chip chart for 1972 states that Coronation Red was discontinued in September 1971 , why I cannot understand , but there you have it.

I can't believe that nobody knows what the letter "S" is for.

Here ya go.  According to this addendum in 73,  some of the old codes in 72 were changed.

S =  Shoulder belts in 72.

G'day David,

Thanks for that.

I wish it were true, but my car has not been fitted with Shoulder Belts, so I have fitted my own.

Bruce.

PS.   Sounds like my car would nearly be describes as a "Fully-optioned" vehicle.  The initial owner has to be congratulated for ordering it so I could eventually enjoy it.   And I really do enjoy it.

Well I suppose the "S" on the tag could just be an error then.    Or maybe it was supposed to have the rare shoulder belts and they were not available at assembly time.   So they were skipped and a letter sent that they will be installed at the dealer later.

I have seen window stickers with odd notes like that.   One 76 Cadillac had a sticker that said the spare tire was not included but would be sent to the dealer when available.

Thanks David.

Anything is possible.

As an aside, my car now has retractable Lap/Sash Seat Belts for both front and rear outer seating positions, and central Lap belts, all with matching, colour-coordinated webbing.

The seats are actually out of a '71 Eldo I stripped in 2008, and I fitted them till I can get the funds to reupholster the originals with leather to match the side trim.   Then it will look really nice, and complete.
