Title: 51 Series 62 Dome light wiring
Post by: wrench on March 29, 2018, 01:57:54 PM
Re: 1951 Series 62 sedan

Is the dome light supposed to come on with the front doors open?

Map lights work ok, dome light works ok with rear doors, pillar switch works ok.

The dome light does not work with driver or passenger door open.

The map lights work when the front doors are open.

Wondering if this is normal ops or not.

The print does not talk about front and rear door switches, just LH and RH.

My car is a '49 not a '51, but the normal way the map lights and the dome light work in my car is as your lights are working now.  That is:

The dome light does NOT light with front doors open;

The dome light comes on when either of the rear doors are opened;

The dome light comes on when the switch for them on the driver's side body pillar is moved to "ON".

The map lights come on when either of the front doors are opened;

The map lights come on when the switch for them on the dash is moved to "ON".

Thanks Jay, thats probably the correct answer.

The reason for my question was I finally found an NOS pillar switch and was going through the system and couldn't remember the rest of the dome light operation...

My 1951 Series 61 interior lights work the same as yours. It is a two door, and opening a door lights the map lights but not the dome light. The dome light works only with the manual switch on the pillar behind the driver's door.

Actually, as Bob knows my car is a 2-door too, but I'm also familiar with 4-doors.
