Post by: Bob Sweeney on April 27, 2018, 07:34:23 PM
Hello,

Proud to be a new member  !  I bought a 1964 six window last weekend.  One owner car and needs some TLC.  The radiator is no good.  I'm looking for an after market recommendation.  Can anyone help ?

Congrats and welcome. You did the right thing.... posted pictures! I put a $200 aluminium one from Car Quest in mine, but that is a 70. Seems to work ok but I do a lot of hiway driving snd not much stop and go.
Is yours actually leaking or just not holding pressure? If it is a pressure issue try a new cap. I know it sounds simple but it really makes a difference. If it holds pressure then take it to a radiator shop and they can give it a good cleaning.
Enjoy
Jeff

Welcome! Another option for your radiator if the tanks are still good is to have a new core welded to your old tanks.  You can use a high performance core while still retaining the original appearance.

If yours looks original and what you buy doesn't look original make sure you keep the old one in case you are not happy with the replacement and what to get it repaired.    From my own experience and reading forums $500 is a ballpark range for getting a re core these days if you can even find an old time shop to do it.

It looks like US Radiator makes one for the car.   Just like the re core shops should offer you they have a choice of cores so if you want the best possible cooling you can go for a much higher tech core design.    Most of the classic vendors sell USA radiators and a Cadillac specialist may actually have stock.   USA seems to be built to order and many of the online places don't stock anything but the most popular cars so you may have to wait.

I second what TJ has stated.  I bought a new radiator from US Radiator and it's perfect.  My old one couldn't be recored so I found them very helpful and their site is great information to pick a new one out.  Good luck.  Tony
