The price is certainly right ... unless there's a ... NORTHSTAR involved!
Do I see a northstar badge? I might think that was standard on this package anyway?
I was just being my N*-obnoxious self. The 2002 Eldorado had the Northstar and it wasn't the worst. But it wasn't the best.
Interesting tidbit I just discovered about the 2002 Eldo:
"Production of this slow-selling V8 luxury coupe ended in April 2002, with retail supplies exhausted by late May. Cadillac marked the occasion with a commemorative Collector Series (ECS) model with special emblems, plus colors and exhaust note intended to mimic those of the original 1953 Eldorado. It had 275 hp and a 4-speed automatic transmission, along with a standard antiskid system."
Could you have the seller send us a recording of this 2002 Eldo running? :-)
122,000 miles. Gonna need the head gaskets done.

Maybe. I plan on purchasing 1 - 2 of these CE Eldorados. Some of the 1596 are being collected and have less than 80,000 miles offered now. I have not checked the roster, but I suspect a few more are being collected by CLC members and have far less than 60K miles.
I get it, some people think the NorthStar is a bad motor. But I have had 2 S class Mercedes from this generation and they were expensive and complicated to maintain.
At 122,000, 2nd owner, we don't know what has been done previously but I suspect the 1st owner has done head gaskets once. This is not an ideal collector car like the 2nd one I added, but should be purchase-able in that $2500 to $3000 range and would be great for club events.
As 67_Eldo know, I am not a white fan. I marginally like the Pearl White metallic, but straight up white not really.
I don't know much about the Collectors Edition program, but I can surmise from how it was set up that Cadillac felt it could sell more white cars than bright red, which is not a common Cadillac color in any era. So it was skewed to white.
I think the last generation Eldorado was a phenomenal design, not sure how others feel. It fought a losing battle as buyers shifted away from coupes. As collectors we typically gravitate towards coupes and convertibles, but as owners of transportation we now want SUV's and 4 door sedans.
When Northstar engine debuted in 1993, it was standard in the premium Eldorado Touring Coupe and Seville STS only and not available in base models. Ever since the 1994 model year, Northstar became standard in all Eldorado & Seville models plus the new DeVille Touring Sedan added this year, leaving the base DeVille as the only model with 4.9 Liter until the end following model year 1995. Northstar finally became standard across the board in 1996.
The red ones are beautiful.
I got burned on a 99 Eldo I called the Heartbreaker.
After having the whole cradle dropped out of the car by a Northstar specialist and spending a lot of money to have the head gasket and stud fix done plus new bottom end gaskets and tons of other extra work to prevent future problems or developed a crack in the front of the block which of course leaked coolant.
Personally I'd wait for a lower mileage one.

From https://www.prettymotors.com/1953-cadillac-eldorado-convertible/
"While the original 1953 first generation Cadillac Eldorado was available in four colors, known as Aztec Red, Azure Blue, Artisan Ochre and Alpine White (this helped start the future craze of using outlandish names for colors), the convertible tops offered two added colors, coming in either black or white."
So that's where the 2002 Collector-Series colors come from.
I understand (sort of) Cadillac fanaticism. But I can't understand why Cadillac went out of its way to make the 2002 Northstar *sound* like a 1953 331. Can you imagine somebody bringing home an expensive new Eldo in 2002 and saying to somebody else, "But wait! It gets better. My new Eldorado *sounds* like a 1953 V8!"
That's over-the-top fanaticism. :-)
First I ever heard of Cadillac deliberately tuning exhaust of the 2002 CE Eldorado to mimic that of the 1953 Eldorado, which presumably means that applies to all 1953 models since the driveline was common to all.
Nor for that matter, am I aware of any differences in the exhaust system between the Collector Edition Eldorado and the regular production ETC of 2002 either.
I too have heard anecdotally that the exhaust was tuned to sound like the 53 Eldorados. In some other cars that interest me there is usually a "fact sheet" that survives or some information such as dealer provided letters to say what is special about a limited edition model. That probably formally exists with the last generation Eldorado CE, but I would not know how to obtain or who from.
As for the Northstar, we are only going to (probably) hear the horror stories here. They made many more that are OK. I don't know what to do? Just pretend there are no collectible Cadillacs from 1993 to 200-.
I agree the 122,000 mile CE is not the one I would collect (the red 76,000 mile one is) I agree if I bought that one and it cost me dearly shortly thereafter, I would not buy another one.
