I would need a complete jack for a '47 Cadillac.
Thanks!
They seem to be rather rare :)
Are you looking for a rim jack.
I thought they were for the limos??
Also, I'm told they are very very dangerous.
Have fun.
Steve B.
My interpretation of the factory literature is that the rim jack is for all models. Please correct me if I am wrong. It is needed for a Series 62 sedan.
It is not supposed to get much or even any use at all. A friend of mine just needs it for the sake of authenticity.
Those jacks look like they are the best to keep oneself clean when changing a wheel.
As with all things, if used properly, they would be safe.
Beats getting under a vehicle to position a jack, then having to operate it, whereas using the wheel jack, and setting a jack stand for support might be simpler.
I love the Bumper Jack that came with my Eldorado.
I even have an hydraulic Bumper jack that came with Aussie supplied GM cars of the early '50's. Pump up, then simply twist to lower.
Bruce. >:D
As I said, its usability is not the prime reason of asking for one :)
Nils,
That picture is straight out of a 1941 owners manual. It's a 1941 ONLY jack. I suggest you search out what a 47 jack looks like. Probably fits 46 & 47. Contact Bill Ingler. He's a 47 expert.
Bob
Gentleman, thanks for the very helpful answers.
You are right. The illustration is extracted from the '41 manual while the '47 manual shows a bumper jack (though in a single picture without any details).
I will present the gathered information to the owner of the '47 Cadillac. I assist him in finding parts from time to time.
If any of you could post pictures of the correct '47 jack I would be grateful.
This is the jack found in the car. We did not consider it original to the car:
Niles: Picture below is what I believe is the bumper jack used on the 42, except the 42-75. This bumper jack I believe was also used on the 46-60s,61,62 and 47-60s, 61 and 62 series. The 47 Authenticity manual also says 3 jacks were provided in 47: a normal bumper jack for most models,a heavy duty bumper jack for the 47-75 series and a screw type jack for the 47 commercial chassis. Those of you who have used the rim type jack I am sure will agree it is a dangerous jack but there are also some cautions on using the bumper jack. Make sure you set the parking brakes, block the car wheel diagonally opposite the tire being changed and position the jack just inside the bumper guard( or bracket) with the shaft of the jack slightly towards the center of the car. Sometimes when a rear wheel is changed and the wheel is off the ground, removing that wheel, with the loss of weight from the tire, will cause that rear spring too move that spring shackle upward causing that side of the rear of the car to ride high. Bill
Bill Ingler's photo looks to be the correct jack. I have 47 6269 SDN. Attached are pics of my jack. I'm the 4th owner of the car and I'm sure it's the original.
The base of the jack bears patent no. 2400235. Attached is a copy of the patent. It was granted on May 14, 1946.
Good luck in your search.
Nils,
I may be able to help. Please contact me directly at bobscads@comcast.net so I can send you some pics.
Thanks, Bob
Bill, r2law, many many thanks, this is very helpful!
Bob, I have written you an E-mail.
I am still searching for a jack. Should have the patent number for proper identification... Thanks!
Niles: My 47 jack base has 2400235 as the patent number and 2433537 as the patent number on side of the jack. Bill
Bill... thanks! This matches the number given by r2law. So I want a jack with this number.
I am still searching...
I want one for Christmas ;)

And for Christmas I'd like a single bezel window switch cover for my '47.....1947 Cars are tough to find parts for. Had I done my Homework, it would not be one of my choice cars to own, for that reason. Good Luck!
Bobby
Bobby: Have you seen this switch on ebay Bill

Bill,
Thanks, but I might have to have my head examined. ::). It needs Re-chroming, so that would be another $50.00. Almost $300.00 for a bezel is out of the question unless someone here needs a switch, then I could split it with them, and then I would make him an offer. That's Outrageous and Highway Robbery. It'll never sell at that price.
Bobby
Happy new year! I am still searching...
btt... I am still searching.

I have written you an e-mail.
I believe I have the jack you are looking for including the base. Please PM me.
I have sent you an email.
I just found the jack in my 47 today. ill see if i have the base tomorrow.
Dexfoster
John, it would be great if you could provide some pictures and/or a patent number. This is getting increasingly confusing.
There are many versions of this jack. The base is always the same, the jacks usually are very similar. Most times the only difference is in the part which attaches to the bumper. But I think this is the crucial part.
It seems that Walker supplied jacks for a lot of GM cars in the late 40s and early 50s and therefore produced many versions of the same base model jack.
Ok im going where car is now ill see what all is there i know the actual jack is there for sure but ill get pics for you.

Thats the peace that came out my 47.

Bill would know.....
Bobby
That would be great to know. Thank you all for your efforts. It does not feel well to be so picky but then it only makes sense to aquire the exactly correct jack. The thing is needed only for authenticity purposes on a concourse-level-sedan.
I am still searching...
I have still not found the jack.
I am still on the lookout.

Nils, do you or anyone else have a photo of a know, correct 47 jack???[
Art, Bill Ingler and r2law have posted pictures...
Art, the number of different jacks shown here is really incredible ;D
Thanks a lot but I would want the right one - assuming it is the shown by Bill Ingler and r2law.
It is not really urgent, the friend I am asking for wants it for looks only anyway.
Do you have some background on your jack? What is the source?
I am still searching... 8)
have one for a 1949 75

John, I assume your jack is different to the ones posted by Bill Ingler and r2law earlier in the thread?
