Yesterday, I got another interesting challenge: I should supply a ring gear for a 1934 Cadillac V8. This vehicle has been modified as a fire engine and the fire brigade is trying to keep it on the road.
I'm not sure if NOS ring gears are available, I have doubts. A good used ring gear with the flywheel could be an alternative.
As my parts books are not going that far back, I don't know if the ring gear was used for some more years. That ring gear has 113 teeth and it's inside diameter is 328.5 mm (12.933").
The fire brigade contacted a German factory manufacturing ring gears for the industry; they would be glad to fabricate 100 rings; price and delivery time are still unknown; the fire brigade prefers to buy just one piece.
Does this look like what you want? It has 113 teeth
Thanks for the pictures David. I will forward them to the owner; he should be able to see if that is correct or not. Do you know which engine that flywheel is coming from?
I do not, all I know is that it is I only have Cadillac V-8 engine parts.
David, the owner compared your pictures with his own flywheel. So far, it's good. He just would like to have two more dimensions:
- the outside ring gear diameter
- the diameter at the shoulder (see the arrow at the attached picture)
- your price with the shipping costs to the ZIP code 01913
Thanks!
After the MPL '32 '33 and'34 all use the same ring gear on the V-8 Johan
Johan, thanks for that useful information!
Yes, thank you Johan. I haven't corresponded with you for quite a while. I hope things are going good for you. What does MPL stand for please? Thank you, Dave
I will measure it tomorrow. If its the right one, how is $250 delivered to you? Dave
Good morning Dave, thanks for asking all is well. MPL stands for Master Parts List, a book of about 950 pages together, covering in detail chassis and body parts.
Mine is the 6th edition covering intensively up to "36 I would be lost without it. regards Johan

Well, I think is an acceptable amount. I'm waiting for your dimensions!
Roger
looks like 14 1/4 on the outside and 12 1/8 on the inside. It would come using Fed-Ex. If this works, you can pay with pay-pal. Please call or text me at 507-458-632nine. Dave
Thanks for the picture. I will send them to the owner. Once he check them, we can go further.
Don't forget that I'm located in Switzerland! I will not call (I don't understand Americans on the phone and they don't understand me!) nor text, because I have no handy.
PayPal is OK with me.
I'll let you know.
What I did was charge you $200 for the piece, Whatever shipping would be would be extra. Thanks, Dave
I assume you guys are going to leave the flywheel & the ring gear together. I would not suggest separating them.
Bob
You certainly get all the "easy" ones, Roger. You're either lucky or not charging them enough! Reputation proceeds you, so to speak... As the song goes, "just keeps getting tougher all the time."

Before Internet was popular, I had inquiries for the easy and the difficult cases. I did charge something on top of my own costs even if sometimes it was just too easy! Now, people go to the various possibilities on-line and I'm just good for the almost impossible cases! Do I regret this evolution? Not at all: searching, ordering advancing the funds, getting the material, dispatching it to the various customers and hoping they will honor the bill was a lot of work.
Roger, did you change your mind?
Sorry Dave for my silence. The parts are not for me but for somebody else. It seems that the owner found a NOS ring gear somewhere in the US. If it's true or not, I cannot say. The owner promised me to confirm that he will get the right part; therefore, I kept yours on a "reduced flame".
I'm sorry for all that trouble for nothing. If there is a situation change, I'll let you know.
No problem, thanks for letting me know. Dave
