My latch is worn. I have to slam the door a few time before it seats properly with the striker. Anyone have a spare?
Look up member Frank Puma and PM him. I remember seeing a box of Caddy door latches at his place, though not sure of model years. They looked mid-fifties to me. Clay/Lexi
Thanks but unfortunately he only had ones for sedans. Do you think the door latch can be refurbished?
Is the door aligned properly? Does it latch properly if you lift the handle while closing? Is the fixed part of the latch adjusted too far to the center of the car? I have found this to be a problem with all of the 56 coupes I messed with and built through the years. Perhaps the door part of the tach is bound up with old/hard grease?
I will look to see if I have save any door parts from all the coupes I disassembled through the years.
If you have some skill and patience you can repair your 56 coupe latch with parts from any 55 or 54 latch from the same side. The 56 4 doors use a rotating catch style like Chevy did, but any previous year Cadillac latch is the roller end style. I had to repair my 56 coupe latch too, but fortunately I had a 55 4 dr sedan for a parts car. Most of the latch is the same design, only the way it attaches to/contacts with the door handle is different.
