Maybe I have been asleep - but yesterday and again today, I noticed a big red triangle in that bar that runs along the top of the screen when I visit web sites.
It popped up when I visited and started to read the current posts about which I have posted recently - http://forums.cadillaclasalleclub.org/index.php?action=post;topic=159214.0;last_msg=456853
Should our SITE and STUFF be secure.
Or as usual, it's just me.
Have fun,
Steve B.
I’m seeing that too.
It’s just that we probably don’t have the latest and greatest html code written into the site. I have been ignoring it.
That typically indicates that a website does not have what is known as an "SSL Certificate" which validates the site is indeed who it says it is. This was primarily needed for sites that had payment options, but now, more and more browsers are making it a point to "highlight" the fact that the does not have an SSL certificate.
It does not indicate the site is compromised, or that there is any security issue, only that the site does not have the SSL Certifcate
As long as you're not entering any sensitive information, it shouldn't be a problem.
Now, what was your mother's maiden name again?
The site hasn't been "Secure" for many years. The words were always there, but only in the last day or so did they colour it red and put the triangle there.
Bruce. >:D
It’s really not a joke. Non secure sites, those without the SSL Certificates and https at the front end of the URL, are easy to mimic and easier to infiltrate and hack. Running my own website for the past few years I know that this added layer is really not costly. Any idea why the Forum is not a secure site?
I see that the colour has changed, and the triangle has gone, and back to the circle with the exclamation mark in the centre.

Using Firefox as my web browser.
For this site Firefox tells me: "Blocking social media trackers, cross site tracking cookies, and fingerprinters"
But still, I am very cautious about any info I post that may be "too revealing"
OK, some of the responses were way too blase' or smug.
What does it take to, at the least, get the Certificate.
I recognize that maybe getting the Certif. is like placing an ADT Security sticker on you front door - surely no bad guy will get us, now.
You guys sound way more sophisticated about this stuff - how can we be safer, and at what cost, or what task - back breaking or otherwise - needs to happen.
It's more scary now to have fun,
Steve B.
FYI:
Ive requested the club purchase a SSL Certificate so i can make the site secure.
Until then, the only secure info behind the door are passwords and they are encrypted so they're safe.
Folks, this is NOT a payment site. An SSL should not be necessary.
That said I have seen some instances where people post their email addresses in their username, signature or in message text. Please Do not do that. whether or not this site has an SSL, that is Still a sure way to invite spammers into Your Own email.
Thanks Peter! An SSL is a cheap way to add valuable security.
