Title: 1937 LaSalle hubcap
Post by: cmenrad on April 04, 2020, 12:39:21 PM
Upon returning from a recent drive I found one of my hubcaps missing from my 1937 La Salle.  So looking for one to replace it.  Restorable is ok

Thanks

Chris

Are you seeking the large sombrero or the small caps? I may have a set of the small caps for sale as I've just spent about 30 hours restoring them. I won't break the set and sell a single however.

I am looking for the larger cap (I guess it is called sombrero).  see the photo of blue care in the middle of the other three.  it looks like the full cap to me

that being said, how much are you asking for the full set of the small caps?

I have not had them chromed yet so cannot give you a price. There may be a set on eBay for 1939 for $750 without emblems. I am waiting to see how many good emblems I can come up with
and also arguing with myself if I really want to sell them. I have a set of sombreros and spent three days taking the dent out of one of them, and wondering what I'd do if I lost one.
It'll be a few weeks before I decide, so meanwhile it is best to look elsewhere. Mine will probably  be in the $1,000 and up range..too expensive to buy and too expensive to sell. The chrome will probably cost $400 alone, plus the hard to find emblems. Plus the restoration of the emblems which I am now doing on the sombrero caps.
I'll keep an eye out for you to see if we can locate a single.

I do have an extra sombrero cap that has a LaSalle emblem STAMPED into it, not
removable so I think it may be of another year, yet looks to be a duplicate of the '37. I thought of cutting out the stamped LaS and inserting a '37 LaS. It is in very good condition, other than needing to be re-chromed. I'll have a close look at it tomorrow and let you know.
Just finding either cap is turning out to be a problem.

That looks like my hubcap.  let me check closer and verify.    Thank you.  What would you ask if you want to sell it?

Thanks

My wheel cover looks just like that one.   the emblem is attached but the logo design appears to be exactly like that.  I have photos attached

I'd like to help you out but I think I better keep it. My own LaSalle was out of my ownership for about 20 years and just got it back last August so haven't kept up with parts availability, and now I see just how hard this stuff is to get.
No matter what I sold it for I'd be hard-pressed as you are to find another. But since I am still seeking parts I'll do my best to try and find one for you. I know I just invested something north of 15-20 hours pounding the severe crease out of one of my sombreros.
Try John Gately at 617 445-3300 he's the best source I can think of.
