I am looking for a new or rebuilt sending unit for my 79 Eldorado fuel injected non diesel.
I checked a few places and can't seem to find one.
I could also send mine away for rebuild over the winter if anyone knows of a good place once borders open and mail is a bit more reliable.
Any help would be great.
Cheers Donnie
Do you mean the gas pump and pickup, with level sending unit in the
gas tank? What is wrong with yours? I totally overhauled mine several
years ago.

Yes that's what I'm looking for mine is pegged to the full tank side on the dash.
I did take it out when I put a new tank in and the place I took it to said they could not rebuild it, something about not having the right board for it????
From the GM Parts Manual it looks like you need PN 25001951 for a non digital dash car with the 350B engine. I have an 81 Eldo with a digital fuel gauge that is also not working and have spent a little time in trying to figure mine out. After making a couple of tests as described in the Factory Service Manual it appears that it has an infinite resistance (probably a broken wire in the sender) and it reads above full like yours (it shows as -- on the digital display). I haven't dropped my tank to pull the sender and figure out exactly what is disconnected but from doing some research about it the regular gauge should show approx 90 ohms resistance when the tank is full and go to zero resistance when it is empty for a non digital dash car (95 ohms for the digital dash). Attached is a picture that I found on this Forum (I think?) that shows how they look inside. Looks to me like a simple linear resistor coil with a wiper to ground. I have read also on this site that there are companies that will rebuild them. I don't think that it will be a "board" issue as per your repair shop's diagnosis. One test to verify that it is a sender or wiring issue is to ground the sender wire and the gas gauge should drop to empty. On the 81 there is a wiring connector behind the license plate that if you disconnect it you can make this test very easily. Not sure about the 79 wiring so you should check the manuals first to figure it out. Dave
Yes an open circuit will read F. Do check that the tank UNIT (not just
the TANK) is grounded. If it is not, your low pressure tank pump will
not run, but the car can run on the external pump if the tank is over
half full.
Pulling my 79 Eldo tank unit, I used an ohm meter to track down
some failing connections to the fuel level sensor resistor. I was able
to repair these and put it back in service (along with a new pump
and hose). good luck, Bruce Roe
Hey guys thanks for all the great info I will look into it further.
Yes mine is a non digital dash.
Stay safe
Cheers Donnie
I realize that this post is over three years old however, my sending unit (Gauge) in the 79 is Slow to react, ie , it will read empty until the car warms up, so I'm thinking a Stuck a stuck or binding Reostat, apparently it can be taken apart and cleaned up with steel wool, as I check the resistance on a Volt meter??
