Title: 1966 Battery
Post by: gkhashem on September 04, 2020, 11:47:59 AM
Anyone know the correct original style battery that went into a Coupe Deville, or likely all of them?

I think it is a group 27.

This?

George,

I’d use the S27D AGM. The terminals align with the wire locations, (+) on the right side and (â€") on the left, looking from the front of the car. The other battery would require crossing the wires to reach the appropriate terminal.

George  -  I believe the complete General Motors line went to Energizer batteries in 1966.  I had a 1966 Pontiac Grand Prix and my dad had a 1966 Bonneville and both had the red cap energizer from the factory.  I believe the yellow cap Delco batteries ended in 1965.

I think the post configuration from Ralph is correct but I think the style is as Jon says.

The reason I ask is years ago I bought was as such above for my 1966. However the battery only lasted about 4 years.

Then I looked again recently and see the different style on the antique battery website.

I am actually looking at getting the battery topper this time instead of the antique battery. Currently I have a modern AC Delco battery group 27 but am looking for a topper. Not sure I am into spending an extra $200 for the replica.

However I do not think they make such a topper for a group 27

I converted my Interstate Group 27 very simply by adding an individual letter sticker I had made up and inserting Delco yellow caps.  BTW, this battery is 10 years old and still cranks as new.

George,

Jon is correct about the Energizer type. I was referring to terminal configuration and should have been clearer. As far as longevity is concerned, I never got more than 4 years out of a new repro - old style battery...…..Ticks me off.
