Title: 1937 Bumper bolts
Post by: cadillac ken on October 02, 2020, 07:31:17 AM
Putting my new re-chromed bumpers onto my '37.  I see that they have round holes for the bumper bolts and not the usual square holes to accommodate a Carriage bolt.  When I bought the car I didn't have bumpers and I never had any clue as to what the bolts were to use so can someone explain what is the solution?

Thanks, Ken

There should be brackets on the inside of the bumper for the outer bolts. The inner bolts are attached to the bumper guards which go through the bumper and mounting bracket.      Harry

Thanks Harry. Yes aware of the outer bolts being concealed and they look to be carriage bolts that are used.  But I wasn't aware of bumper guards on the '37 60 series.  But that makes sense.  Sadly I didn't get any bumper guards with the car. :(

Probably have series 70 bumpers (?)

According to the Master Parts Book the bumper and guards are the same for all Series '37s except V-16. I may have at least a pair of guards if you need some.

Thanks Harry:  I might take you up on that if I can find another set for the front/rear.

Another thing about the 37 Cadillacs, the bumpers are the same for front and rear, one of the few cars to have that feature. 8)Harveyb

I am in the market for at least one good bumper guard for a '37 LaSalle if you have one for sale. If price is right I may go for a pair. I have a few, but they need very serious work, and they're thick as a nickel so I don't look forward to hammering on them.
