Title: 1964 LOWER speedometer cable WITH cruise control
Post by: 1964cadillac.de on January 10, 2021, 06:45:10 AM
After I searched in the internet for weeks now, I can't find a new lower speedometer cable for my 1964 Fleetwood with cruise control. There are hundreds of offers for the upper and for non cruise control equipped cars. But nobody offers the lower cable from the transmission to the cruise control unit.
I even would buy a good used one! Or is there somebody who reproduce these kind of speedometer cable?

Please help  :-[

G'day Christian,

Any good cable supplier or instrument repairer would have the capability of making what you want.

In Australia, we have a company called "Cable Mate" that makes anything to do with cables, and Speedo Cables are included, so there should be someone somewhere near you.

Christian,

Do you still have the old cable assembly?  If so, and the outer housing is still good, and you can remove the cable core, you used to be able to buy just the inner cable in a cut-to-fit kit from Napa. It comes with a replaceable end that you crimp in place once the cable is cut to the length you need. One end of the new cable is squared already and they supply the crimpable end and the little tool to crimp it on with.
If the old cable core has just twisted in half, and it can be pulled out of the housing,  and it hasn't jammed itself in there or damaged the housing, this would be an alternative to an all new cable assembly.
HTH,

Rick
