Title: 60 CDV Vacuum Lines
Post by: Michael Petti on January 20, 2021, 02:28:56 PM
Starting to plan work for Spring. I need to replace the vacuum hose to the heater vacuum diaphragm on the heater of a non a/c car.  Last fall I found 3 vacuum posts on the back of the heater control just to the right of the steering column. The manual has a diagram, but does not show where the lines go to on the control.  I am guessing the one toward the ashtray is for the diaphragm, and the one toward the steering column is for the hookup to the main vacuum line. Don't know what the middle on is for and it has no line on it now.  Should I plug it with a piece of hose and a screw or what?  I should mention I get a loud hissing sound from the heater control unless I move it slightly to the right of the off position.  Thanks for the help.

Michael, there are vacuum caps available at auto parts jobbers, that you can use to cap off any unused vacuum nipples.  There are several different sizes available, so you will have to measure the diameter of the nipple you need to cap  There is no need to "mickey mouse" something with a piece of hose and a screw. :D :D  Sorry, I can't help you with the rest of your questions.

What I do to fabricate Vacuum plugs is to cut a short piece of vacuum tubing, and insert a ball bearing inside the end, then push the piece onto the fitting.

No need for clamps, and the ball won't go anywhere.
