Title: New scammer alert.
Post by: 2 Devilles on February 01, 2021, 06:36:43 PM
Just got a text from 617-340-5559 saying he has the rear bumper end for my '60 I'm looking for.  I don't fall for the crap easily, so I googled the number.  Turns out he's been scamming parts wanted ads on a couple other sites, so if you get a text or call from 617-340-5559 either block it or mess with them for a while like I do.

I also just got a text from that number. They said they have the 59 grill bullet installation tool I need. I googled the number and found several scams associated with it. This is a scam, watch out.

I'm sure the CLC forum isn't the only ones he trolls.

Put this out in your other car groups/clubs that you are a member of.

Hey, wait a minute. I thought you couldn't say bad things about sellers/dealers???
There has been pages of posts, pro and con over this.
When did you change the rules allowing disparaging remarks about someone...?

:)  Difference is he is a scammer.  Tells you he has the part you want --- you send him the money --- that is the last you hear of him or the part.

Geoff is correct.   The biggest problem these days is telling the difference between legitimate Sellers and Buyers and Scammers

I think that back when this rule was formulated, there were very few Scammers around, but these days, we have no problem with telling the world about Scammers, as the Rule still applies to genuine Sellers and Dealers.

A rose by any, other name, is still a rose! Legitimate sellers and dealers shouldn't have a problem. They should welcome it.
Be it a seller or dealer that screws you or a scammer that screws you. The problem here is that a lot of people know these "dealers or sellers." Can't say anything bad or truthful, but an unknown "scammer" is fair game?
My point is, either you enforce the rule for all bad dealers, bad sellers or scammers or you don't. After all, the OP is trying to warn club members of a bad person. Shouldn't club members be warned about bad dealers or bad sellers, also? They are told about good dealers or personal sales that went well!
If not, why not?
Just asking!

Mario Caimotto

Mario's point is well made.  There needs to be a way to convey a message about those who are constantly on  the "edgy" side in their dealings.

I for one agree with the folks who want complete transparency about transactions that went badly, including the names of the players.

This site is to provide information we can ALL use that makes our education more complete, including who to trust with sound advice on repairs parts and the like - including the names of bad players..

This site should do all it can to protect us against bad doers - not act as a shield for them, which makes you an accomplice.
We are all grown adults, but must be able to protect our selves and money - so this high handed archaic rule of not disclosing a bad deal, and who was involved, is OBSOLETE.

Next comes the hide behind responses, if you want change, join the Board.

I think if any of us has been wronged in a way that others of our group may fall victim, just say who it was, and alert us all.
Let the chips fall where they may.
Even if struck out by the watch dogs, the bell can't be un-rung, and opens a free exchange through messaging or emails or phone, if the episode may effect any one of us.
"Power to the people".

Have fun,
Steve B.

This guy is NOT a member here.  According to other posts on other boards, it appears he just scans parts wanted ads and then texts the ones who post their phone number to reply.  Brian and I texted a little about our experiences with this person, and it's pretty comical. I'm not going to speak for Brian, but I will tell you this: I asked this person to send me pics of the part I wanted with him holding up three fingers in the pic instead of just texting me a random pic off Google images, and he went silent, even after a repeated request for said picture.  If you don't want to be warned about legit scammers, I guess I can delete this thread and let unsuspecting fellow board members lose their hard earned money to these creeps.

This is rbrown7713 and I just posted a scam alert in the general tab about this very scammer.  His phone number was 617-340-5559, so no doubt he is a scammer. He went as far to make a request on my PayPal account for 80.00 and also 180.00 and I cancelled his requests, so no damage done.  His mistake was to not add any shipping charges, gave himself away. Bob.
