Title: 67 deville cluster connector
Post by: TomB on October 26, 2021, 01:08:27 PM
Hi all. Getting close to put the cluster back into the car; all connectors, lightbulbs are labeled now. One thing remains: the main connector from the harness to the clusterpanel. The connector (see attached pic) can be inserted in the flexible circuit in two ways, with pins 1-6 up or with 7-12 up. Don't want to fry all my work by doing it wrong.

Any other tips for installing the cluster box appreciated...

Thanks, Tom

Tom,

Those connectors are designed so that they should only go in one way.  There should be a small "key" or tab somewhere on the outside that will line up with the opening in the cluster.
Looking at your picture, I believe I see that tab on the top. It's just a thin protrusion about 1/4" long/or high, and it should prevent the connector from being inserted incorrectly. Unfortunately I can't see the other side of the connector, but I think that's what you have there.
Hope this helps,
  Rick

PS: Another thing that may help is to check the printed circuit for matching terminal connections. I noticed one side has a missing terminal on your connector, so there may be a matching lack of a terminal on your cluster printed circuit. Just a thought.

Thanks for the tip, will look again for this opening, but wasn't there when
I looked today, might have overlooked it. I hope.

According to the shop manual only 11 of the 12 wires are in use..

cheers.
