Title: 1969 Door Strikers
Post by: Cadillac Nut on November 21, 2023, 11:29:36 AM
None of the 4 doors shut like they should on my '69 they are a little 'loose' when closed or have to be slammed, do the door strikers wear out on these cars?  Just wanted to get some opinions before I start changing strikers or taking latches apart.

Are the "insulators" still intact?

Often it is the hinges saging causing the latch and striker to be out of alignment.

Have a serious look at the locks themselves as well as the hinges.   They do wear out.

Before and after shots of the lock reconditioning.

One has a hinge sag issue but the others do not.  I replaced the front door latches with good used ones I lubricated and tested the replacements they seemed to be fine, rears I've never touched.  Insulators, you mean the part that spins on the striker shaft?

Yes,

If there's supposed to be a piece of plastic on that shaft it's missing from all of mine
