Title: ‘61 dash install tricks?
Post by: David Greenburg on February 23, 2024, 05:51:11 PM
Trying to reinstall the dash top/cover on my '61 and having trouble getting it all the way forward so that the defroster slots are aligned with the outlets in the dash. It's not clear to me whether the hooks on the dash are supposed to go over or under the spring-loaded retainers on the cowl. Logic suggests the hooks should go over the retainers, but the way they are shaped, it appears that they could go under the retainers as well, and when I try to position the dash, it seems like under the retainers is their "natural" position. Anyone know the correct alignment?

I am happy to hear the answer as well. If there is not an answer I will try to install the top pad back on my parts car to see what I see.

Looking at my parts car dash it is obvious the locking clips would go inside of the hooks.

Another observation my march build parts car uses a different J nut style then my December build Fleetwood.

That does seem the most logical. One of the downsides of my car being a low mi original is that there isn't much in the way of rust or abrasions to indicate how things fit. Interesting about the different j nuts. I did find my missing one BTW.
