While driving yesterday at 25mph, my 7 blade fan fell off, all I heard was BANG. All 3 bolts were gone, and the 4th snapped at the water pump. Cant believe it didnt go threw the rad or do any other damage. Called tow truck I was 5 miles from home. Fourtunity I had a spare. Scarey experiance. I think it was because of my vibration. Check your fans, take a second.
Here it is, Do I have the correct fan?
For an AC car yes that is correct.

The Fan clutch that Caddy Daddy sells for $90 is a Hayden 2710
The only problem I found with this clutch is the center post is wider then original. The original used flange head bolts. The flange scrapes and hangs up on the center post preventing proper torque on the bolts. I switched to non flange head boots.
Here you can see the shinny spot on the post where the flange was scrapping.

With those slotted holes if the center post isn't the right size I could see it being really easy to get the thing mounted off center.
I seem to recall when buying clutches they have come with a bushing because apparently there were 2 'standard' post diameters. I think one time I saw it but didn't need it and the other time I was like dang its the wrong one and then maybe kicking the box in anger the bushing fell out.
I would imagine back in the day you didn't have slotted holes and a fairly precise fit with that post but I'm sure some parts guy figured out if they slotted the holes and maybe sometimes remembered to provide a bushing they could fit 200 applications with one part rather than a dozen. I guess we should be glad we can get anything that sort of fits and works for a while.
Yes. It comes with a bushing and you need it. 20240527_113700.jpg
Lot's of pros and cons to a clutched fan. To me, more cons. A direct drive fan is much more reliable.
Not 100% sure, but I don't recall any '60 coming with a clutch. They weren't even thought of then.
Yes they thought of it and put one in my car in the factory LOL
Ain't that sumtin. The first year of the fan clutch used on Cadillac in 1960. This came on an A/C car only.
Reference is Caddy Daddy.
On the 63/64 Cadillac 5 bladed clutch fans as pictured below, that clutch shaft has precision mounting and if you are installing with an aftermarket that is too wide I would at a minimum use external toothed lock washers under the bolt head to give it some grip. I would also probably add some of the better thread locker. As I'm sure you all know, those serrated flange bolts serve as both fastener and lock washer.
