I have a '41 hydra-matic. I reached out to Professor John Kelly a couple years ago. He produced a series of videos on the hydra-matic transmission.

The photos explain his answer and what I use.

Interesting.  Whats different between that and Dex VI?   The sales pitch seems to be the same for both as far as I can find, super duper premium fluid that is the best thing ever for what ever you want to put it in.

Good morning,

In the early nineties I used DEX III in my '41 coupe. I had no transmission problems. THe car was driven a lot at highway speeds and in town. Except for the firm 1-2 shift it was as smooth as a modern cars. Same for the kickdown shifts.
