Title: Anyone replace AC lower vent vacuum actuator? 1961/62?
Post by: dixoncj on August 29, 2024, 10:53:50 AM
Hey guys, I got the AC working well on my 1962CDV - for a stint. Now I'm pretty sure that the baffle inside the vacuum actuator for the vents has failed. Used to be you put a vacuum on it and the air would redirect over the evaporator. Now it's not happening - and everything else seems ok. Wondering if anyone has ever replaced the vent actuator. It looks like a bitch of a job because the screws are behind the dash or glove box. Thanks for any advice.

I have mine completely disassembled. I cannot speak to the job of doing it in car. But I can add lots of pictures tonight to talk around.

These are pictures that I have on my laptop. Everything is currently disassembled. So I can take more but not in position.

Can you tell me exactly which actuator you are looking at.

I replaced all of the actuators on my 61 years ago. The case must be removed from the engine compartment then you can access all of the actuator mounts. Follow the workshop manual. It seems intimidating but it is very do able.

Wow - I didn't know you could do it from under the hood - looking at the pix it does look doable. Thanks for that insight - the one I think has gone non-functional is the one in Clewisiii's first photo: It's the partially shadowed one that's down low - beneath the two top actuators and below the white plug. Circled yellow in the attached image.

Took my 15 year old son for a ride tonite to the gym. He was like, 'dad, will this thing burn rubber?' When we came up to the next stoplight, I clearly demonstrated to him that it would.

Did you ask your Son if he was going to pay for the ticket before burning rubber?

Down here, that would get you a ticket, and not a cheap one. ;)  ;)
