Hope to get some chrome work done on Lexi this winter during the off season. Long story short, I have some front bumper parts already chromed, (but not yet installed, so the chrome is fresh). I need a rechromed bottom bumper pan if anyone has one. That is probably not going to happen, so I have a spare one here that requires some work. Question: How critical is it when having parts re-chromed to match that already done? How different are variations in chrome appearance and could it be an issue if a chrome shop does not have an already finished piece to compare it to? Aside from glossy vs matte finish, are there different "colors" or shades of chrome? Clay/Lexi
Quick answer is no. But it can be noticable having good work next to bad work.
Chrome is clear. And Nickel is the color of nickel.
If you have a bad layer of nickel you may see some color from the copper base bleed through
Very interesting and mostly reassuring.Thankyou Clewisiii. Hope all goes well if I can find a chrome shop. Stripping down a spare front bumper clip right now for the bottom pan. A near impossible task without my torch and an induction coil. Would have been nice to have some 1/2 sized sockets as well, for some of the badly rusted fasteners. Clay/Lexi
I had to cut several bolts on mine to get them apart.
Good luck finding a chrome shop you want to work with. I like the guys at mine, and I think I got a good price, but I am still waiting on parts I dropped off in March.

Carl thanks. Yes, I as well had to zip cut a few off. I noticed that on my "good" spare lower bumper, some of the fog light box support brackets had broken from their base, (rusted out), and require re-welding. One was even missing altogether. Fortunately I got another core and I cut a good one off from that donor bumper and will weld it onto the bumper I want to go with. Will do this prior to the re-chrome work as I presume high heat may discolor new chrome. Clay/Lexi
Lexi- here are a few FYI:

Usually best to do all parts of one assembly at the same time to ensure that the assembled chrome thing is all the same color. Barring that, at least do it all at the same chrome shop...
