Title: Radiator Identiity
Post by: HFDJR1959 on November 22, 2024, 05:31:16 PM
Can anyone tell me what car goes with this Harrison Radiator 39C3112466 (1939 series 75?) and whether it will fit in my 39 LaSalle

Thank you.

Here's a picture of the tag.  Its confusing because I thought a 39 Cadillac series 75 radiator is # 3113466  and this is 3112466  Was told it was for a 39 LaSalle which according to authenticity manual s/be 3112463.

It has radiator shutter thermostat which is correct for 1939.  Would Harrison use follow on numbers 464, 465 466 for LaSalle?

I currently have a 42-48 Radiator with the split opening in the center that bumps against the air cleaner.  I'll pull out the existing and see if this fits but I wanted to know for "authenticity"

Thanks you any help solving the puzzle.

According to two versions of the Cadillac and Lasalle Master Parts book:
Part # 3112463 is radiator for 1939 Lasalle 50 series.
Part # 3112466 is radiator for 1939 Cadillac 75 series.

I don't know what # 3113466 is. I did not see that number in any of the radiator parts numbers.

I don't know if these two will interchange. My guess is no.

Thanks for checking the master parts book.  I encountered the 3113466 number as a series 75 on a Harrison stamping lists from a site call Brassworks.  Probably a typo.  Since the series 75 radiator does not show as an interchange for my LaSalle, I now have a lovely core for sale that also fits 1939 Series 61 according to my shop manual.

According to the Master Parts Book, 1939 50,60s,61,75,90 each has a different radiator part number. Each is a unique part number that is not shared with other cars. (90 series radiator is shared with 1938 and 1940 90).

This illustrates the limitation of the parts book. Different parts numbers mean a part is different SOMEHOW but does not say how. If the difference is minor, a part may still fit on other cars, but the book does not elaborate.

I don't know for certain but I suspect a 39-75 radiator will not work in a 39-50 Lasalle because they are built on different bodies and different styling. The fenders bolt to the frame surrounding the radiator core.
Also, even thought the blocks are the same, there are differences between the engine in a 75 and a 50.

Unless someone in the audience has experience with this, the only way to know for sure is a side by side comparison.

I just  checked our families 39 series 75. It has a 40K 3115151 radiator. That should fit 1940 all exc 60s,75 and 90 and 1941 all. When my Dad was rebuilding it ,we had a 1941 60s for parts. It likely came from there. It has been on the car since 1975.

The radiator core Group 6.0746 (no tanks), part # 3115275 fits 39 exc 60s,90, 40 exc 90 and 1941-46 all (1946 book). That leaves the tanks as the difference.

 The cap is group 6.0826 part # 486 686(47 update 486 757) fits 3890,1939 all,1940 all
Thermostat group 6.1612 39-40 exc 90,1941 all ,both temp ranges
  No Problem there.

Hose necks,Radiator side brackets for mounting to car. Not sold separate ,could be the difference.
