Title: 1948 Series 75 w/SO Interior on BaT.
Post by: Eric DeVirgilis CLC# 8621 on December 27, 2024, 01:07:40 PM
Build sheet provided but not much information as to what the Special Order (trim) is.

Hopefully, someone here might be able to shed some light.

**EDIT - I just realized it has division window, so it might be the cloth upholstery in front compartment rather than leather.

I think you are right. The order sheet notes "cloth in front and"

It's always at the last hour on BaT. Beautiful car though.

I had a '49 7519.  (5 passenger, no divider).  Along with my '41 60 Special, I think these cars were among the most beautiful closed cars ever built.  These cars carried 16 inch rims through '49.  The wheel covers are steel, and because of the large depression, are almost impossible to plate.  These covers are beautiful.  I had to put NOS '46 16" covers on mine, they were all I could find.  If I didn't need to sell some of my cars now, that car would be in my garage.  Keep in mind, these '75s with a division really restrict front seat leg and tummy room.

Is it correct the front seat is fixed on Imperial models (w/division, black leather)?

Another interesting point I just discovered when looking into this car is the dash on Imperial is textured black material while on the non-division models the dash is finished in burl wood transfer decal.

I remember when in the mid to late 70's, I was a livery driver. We had both Cadillacs and Lincolns and in both the divider series cars the front seat was fixed. It was hell to drive with your knees under your chin.

Just a quick look in one of my books, but Series 75 hydro-electric front seat in the 1953 Series 75 models, with purely electric from 1954 on. Don't see power seats at all offered in '52, unless I missed it. Didn't go back to '49. I know my '56 Limo only has 2 way electric front seat controls, though that year Cadillac offered for the first time 6 way electric seats as an option. Only 2 ways were available for the Series 75s though, presumeably because of the bulkhead separating the front cabin from the rear salon. Clay/Lexi

I had two
56 Derhams  at the same time.  The seats were two way power only

Hydraulic windows and seat were introduced by Cadillac for most 1946 models, and in 1947 on the Fleetwood 75 models. BUT the 75 limousine with its fixed division window, did not have the hydraulic seat. On this model, at least in some years, it also appears that only the rear windows were hydraulic. I believe that the Series 75 sedan (non-limousine) had a hydraulic system the same as the 60S model from 1947 through 1953. As Clay said, the electric system replaced the Hydro-electric system in 1954 models. Clay is also right about the 1956 models; he knows more than anyone about 1956 Series 75s!
As for sources, the data books give only partial information about these matters. Roy Schneider's volumes on Cadillac in the 1940s and the 1950s shed more light. As an aside, I note how impressive and informative Roy Schneider's volumes are.
