Title: Strange call today
Post by: Big Fins on February 08, 2025, 05:03:18 PM
Has anyone here ever heard of Cadillac Cream Puffs out of Greenville S.C.? I got a call today from that number asking if I still had a car for sale or wanted to buy one. Very hard to understand the caller.

I looked at my posts for the stated date and I show nothing being posted by me for the date he said the post was made. I was very vague and the caller eventually hung up.

Wondering how I get a call on my business phone when that number isn't listed anywhere with any forums of club that I'm a member of. People are getting weirder by the day.

There is a website for Cadillac Creampuffs in SC. The owner Bob Williams is in his mid nineties and has been in the car business for most if not all his life. For the past many years he is what I would call a "deal maker" in that he solicits sellers and find buyers for nice mostly Cadillacs. I think most of his prospecting is word of mouth and combing ads. I know of a number of people including club members that have dealt with him and I think his son is also involved.
He's not a scammer. I'm not endorsing or recommending him just telling you what I know.

Thank you, Harry. The caller, while sounding very shaky, very well could have been the person you describe and being in his 90's.

I just found it very strange that he knew what kind and color of my car and he called on a number that is only on my business signage and business cards. Either way, Misty isn't for sale...Yet! I have a few more driving years left in me.

The person you're referring to is Bob Williams in SC. I don't know how he got your information other than searching through the CLC directory or somebody told him about your car. He can be very persistent ! He is a broker not a "buyer", he searches out cars for customers that want a certain year car. Check out his website and make sure there is not a photo on his site. He falsely advertised my car to buyers & posted photos when at the time my car was not for sale. I had threatened legal action if my car was not removed from his site, which he did. If you don't want to deal with a broker then I suggest you keep away from him. Again you may not hear the last from him as he's persistent as hell !

Time to get my shovel out and do some digging. Though my avatar clearly states what the car is and the color. I'll have to check the directory for other info.

Persistence doesn't really bother me. That's what the number blocking app is for on the phone.

The directory does not list colors, only body style numbers. You can go into your online membership record and remove your cars and even your listing from future directories.

Bob Williams is a snake oil dealer. Steer clear.

You just got a call yesterday?

He had been warned years ago to cease contacting CLC members soliciting sales "on the arm" of their cars. It stopped for a while but apparently it didn't take hold. I was annoyed myself when he once posted images of car of mine on his site that I had sent him while under the impression he was interested in the car for himself. I only discovered it when he called months later to say he had a buyer for the car but first wanted me to get a number of items corrected before a buyer he had would accept it. (The car was priced according to the repairs needed).

It was in the middle of winter and we had just gotten a snowstorm. I politely told him the car was tuckered away from the elements and it would be impossible to get the car tended before the spring by my mechanic who's the only one I entrust with my cars. He then did some searching in my locale for alternative mechanics supposedly specializing in Cadillacs. He called again with the name of another shop (which was actually a used car dealer) around 30 miles away who apparently was willing to work on the car immediately. I bluntly told him I wouldn't trust that outfit to fix a baby's rattle nor was I about to take the car out in this weather. If his client wants the car, they're going to buy it the way it is or not at all. Period.

What really irritated me is that he expected me to through all the work of getting a car all sorted out and accept the agreed price plus the repairs at my cost. So my time is free? I don't think so! And if the repairs went wrong or something happened to it, who's problem would that be?

At any rate, the matter will have to be dealt with more strongly if he persists.

I'll also add, I was in the hospital when persistently called about selling my car after telling him numerous times I didn't want to sell it or was in a position to deal with anybody about selling my car. He didn't take no for an answer. He continues to ask members about other people's cars and then proceeds to bug the hell out of them. He put "feelers" & "finders fees" out there to members. Fast forward, I threw an outrageous number at him about my vehicle thinking he would leave me alone, didn't work. I sent him 70 photos of my car, described it to him, pointed things out that were not correct along with issues of the car. Mind you he was purchasing the car for somebody else. He agreed to my price, and his customer agreed to his price which was absolutely crazy if he correctly described my car. In turn his customer was extremely upset when he received the car. What did Bob do, he gave his buyer my contact info and the buyer demanded that I refund some of his money. Bob never disclosed to him the things I had listed about the car ! Stay as far away from him as you can ! To me he's a con artist in the car business !!!

Fins,

He called on your mobile number listed in the Directory or home phone?

And change everything up due to one old pest? Nah! He won't be around much longer.  ;)
