Title: Updated CLC logo approved by the board of directors
Post by: Art Director on February 11, 2025, 06:37:43 PM
Your board of directors has approved an updated logo for the CLC. Note the lightning bolt near the bottom to recognize electric vehicles (EVs) made by Cadillac. This logo is scheduled to first appear in the March issue of The Self-Starter.

Cool design not a huge fan of the EV thing but then again, hey, I'm just a member.

Who specifically suggested that the design should be changed, upon which the Board agreed.

Come on, don't be shy, or circle the wagons.

Have fun,
Steve B.

Like Cadillac Jack82, I am not much of an EV fan, or usually fond of image brand changes, but that is a very cool design as Tim noted. I think it was necessary to reflect the EV power plants and that is the best representation of such that I can think of. Not cluttered, makes a subtle statement and it pays homage to the evolution of Cadillac. Well done. Clay/Lexi

P.S. Will they come out with a new CLC Grille Badge?

I don't anticipate ever driving / owning an electric car; I'm not a fan of them either.

That being said, all year Cadillacs & LaSalles can be registered for display on the show field at GNs.

Cadillacs 2015 and older can be judged in Touring Class.

The ELR was first offered in 2014.

Therefore I consider electric Cadillacs are part of the Club.

Question - is it the same so-called purists who denigrate modified and restomods who are upset about the logo update?

All Cadillacs must be included in the CLC. I think the logo update is fine and shows the inclusion of the EVs as it should. Clay/Lexi

I think the lightning bolt looks both cool and tasteful.  Nevermind personal thoughts of EVs.  I'm sure some of the older V8 heads in the 80s thought that the V6 was sorta phewy.

Just think how cluttered it would look if some of the other alternative power sources would have caught on.  Atomic power?  Turbine?  Rotarty?

Tim, why did the Board not update the 1930's Crest at the center while they were at it. Just wondering....

Good question. A new mold would have to be made and it would be sold by GM Club Apparel, which advertises each month in The Self-Starter. This is the first time in 18 years the CLC logo has changed. However, we are supposed to exhaust any inventory on hand before new inventory can be ordered.

That crest is from 1919 originally, and we have to tread carefully. It took four years to get to this point to add the EV symbol. Sure, the LYRIQ debuted in the 2024 model year, but the ELR has been out 11 years.

You guys fussing takes me back. Way back, I mean wayyyyy back, it was proposed that we let all Cadillacs up to, I think thirty years old in the Club. We started arguing inside the building where we had the Board Meeting. I think we had to clear the room for someone else, and were in the lobby, then shoved outdoors under a tree. Doug Houston was of the opinion that we were all crazy, and the Club would soon wither and die. And that 1942 was a "logical" place to cut off membership.

First this point and then another was brought up. We may have had more than one vote. And we were all tired. Back in those days, Board meetings took the whole day. Finally, another vote was called and we passed the change. No one was maimed in the discussion, and I do congratulate all of you for being so restrained in your arguments and the relevant points you brought up on this matter.

It might make some of you feel better to know that it took two tries for me to see the change. It does go with the rest of the symbols and does reflect "Cadillac Style." We have really progressed since 1964 when I first joined. And we have survived many other changes, and hopefully will survive many more well after I am gone to my reward. My regards to all of you.

I'm a relative newbie at 8 years, but I think the logo is fine. I did however just ordered a new XT6 to have one last V6 before they are unavailable. If they can perfect hydrogen we could add a little Zeppelin to the logo 😊

Thank you for your kind words. I added the symbol for EVs and moved the other powerplant designations around to balance all of them.

New grille badges will be ordered once the CLC Store sells its inventory of old badges.

No one person suggested it, really. It was bounced around by the Executive Committee, the Long Range Planning Committee, and the Publications Committee. I was asked to create a design, and well over 40 board members and officers approved without any dissent.

So well said, Barry. I have attended board meetings since 2002 and remember those marathon sessions. We must accept all Cadillacs and LaSalles or we go out of business.

Oh, no, another symbol to add! :)

Then you have liquid natural gas!

I like the lightning bolt...

I remember years ago a 58 Eldorado I owned had those lightning bolts on top of the door lock push/pull knobs....wish I had that car back...

I mentioned the same thing to someone, our first Cadillac, a 59 SDV had the lightning-bolt door knobs for its power locks.

Tim,

Thanks for your explanation for the origin of the "bolt".

For a moment as you described the multitude of Departmental involvements, I thought I was in the Great Depression on how thin can you spread the jelly on a sandwich, or the blame, or the acclaim for change.

I for one think the addition is appropriate, if not long over due.

And, a great new design to include the addition.

Have fun,
Steve B.

We must not forget that it is Electricity that keeps all our cars going.   Even with a Diesel, unless one wants to handcrank one.

As silly as it sounds, maybe there should be a Diesel Logo added.

Bruce. >:D

I can't decide would the diesel one be a tow truck? Or more along the lines of the Peanuts character Pig-Pen?  Maybe that fits best and the tow truck could be for the 4100?
