Hi Guys,
I am looking to do a trade where i will trade in a Cadillac 1956 Coupe de Ville: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1867824897374179/?referralSurface=messenger_lightspeed_banner&referralCode=messenger_banner , I have not seen the car in real live yet but the photos of the interior makes me think that it might not be all original. Looking at the inside door panels, are they not 1955? The upholstery with the buttons looks more 1955 than 1956 to me with reference to the cars i have seen and owned. Also the front seat does not have the same chrome trim i am used to. So what do you say is it a franken-cad or is it just something i have not seen. And if it is 1955 interior, does it fit as it should or will i have trouble making it snap into place properly? Thanks in advance for your input!
That interior looks to be a Series 62 not a deVille
.
You should check the cowl tag for the model number and trim code.
Odd that the Series 62 would have autronic eye and a rear seat armrest
Data plates on the firewall. It'll tell ya everything you need to know.
It is not uncommon to see Ser. 62 cars advertised as de Villes, either by mistake, or due to the limitations of the platform (some apparently don't have a category for See. 62). But this is pretty clearly a Ser. 62 based on the upholstery pattern and door panels. Rear armrest is correct and standard for the Ser. 62 coupe. But as Frank notes, you definitely want to see the firewall data plate to confirm how it was born.
Thanks for the quick replies! I "kind of" understand the direction you are pointing me at. What i don't get is the Series 62 discussion, A Coupe de Ville and Sedan de Ville are both "Series 62" cars and i have no doubt the plate will confirm it as a series 62. But the upholstery does not look right for a CdV or SdV...maybe from a 4 door sedan...Which btw is also a series 62...
Series 62 and DeVille is a trim level.
Dang, I never knew there was a Series 62 Coupe (Body style 6237) , that was not a Coupe "de Ville" (6237 DX). After studying the MPL it's pretty clear that the Series 62 6237 Coupe has the type of interior that the car i am looking at shows as opposed to the Series 62 6237DX "de ville" that has the long "V" chrome trim that covers the full length of the inside door panel. Thanks for helping me understand this!
One will see on occassion, a lot of Cadillac terms used incorectly. Sometimes it is click bait, other times sellers just don't know any better. Clay/Lexi
Autronic eyes were available as a dealer add on. So may not be on the build plate, but still be original to the car.
