My 1959 CDV rolls in park. Shifts fine otherwise. Is this just a minor adjustment or is my park paw weak?
I'd probably start by doing the manual linkage adjustment first, then test it and go from there.
Okay I'm at my wits end here. Doesnt go into park or neutral. Just goes from drive and reverse. Whats the deal?
Did this just happen?
Could be a broken parking pawl.
What gear do you have to be in when starting the engine? Should only be Park and Neutral.
Bruce. >:D
A broken pawl is possible, even if after overhauling more than 30 such transmissions I never saw a damaged pawl. The pin actuating the pawl could be damaged, preventing the engagement of the pawl. You never know what was done right or wrong in a previous overhauling...Over the time, I saw many mistakes.
The indicator doesnt mean anything because its just staying in Drive and Reverse all while still starting in Drive? I'm going batty because it was fine when I dropped it off.

New info here. You said it wasn't that way when you dropped it off.
Dropped off for what?
Lay down just at the front of the drivers door and look at where the rod goes into the transmission connection. It's a through connection if that makes sense, with I think a spring, a washer and a Cotter pin holding all together. Maybe the rod slipped halfway out and won't move the connector the full travel.
I hate anyone having to touch my cars or trucks. Any of them.
It was fixed (ish) and now goes into all gears. Was told something wasnt screwed in properly and worked its way loose. Still soemtimes doesnt go into park right. Since she needs a propeller shaft bearing soon I'll just have my fav shop do it. I was in a pinch this time and they managed to get her at least more functional.
