I'm replacing the front wheel bearings in my 55. I noticed that when I took them apart the cotter key was barely in line with the hole in the spindle. Didn't look safe at all. I looked up the assembly in the workshop manual and it indicated the presence of shims which may improve the issue.
Any suggestions as where I might get some and does this seem reasonable.
Second issue, for the past twenty one years several of my friends and myself have been driving my 63 throughout the country leaving it in storage at various end points 36000 miles so far
The car is in Oklahoma City now with a bad real seal. I reading through seal comments it appears I used the wrong one when the engine was rebuilt three years ago. Russ I particularly appreciated your comments. I know this is a real stretch ..........but would anyone know where I might take it in a somewhat reasonable distance. It will be coming out of storage this time next year

Where does the shim go? I assume between the nut and some sort of keyed washer? Or is the non taper stuff different? Its been a while since I was into something not tapper. I would think a place like McMaster Carr would have basic shim washers.
