I feel stupid for asking this, but, does anyone have the ignition switch positions for a 1950 Cadillac? Currently I have it at the in between 1 and 2 o'clock position which I assume is "Off". I typically have to turn it to the 3 o'clock position to start. I just want to make sure I don't keep the car in "ACC" and drain the battery. Can anyone here provide some guidance?
Shooting from the hip because I don't 100% know.
11:00 ACC
12:00 OFF
13:00 ON
14:00 START
Thanks BigFins. There are only 3 positions.
Oh well. I tried!
Any ignition I've ever seen, the off is always 12, straight up & down. The only time I've seen it turned past that point while "off" is when the ignition switch turned inside the dashboard due to a worn out notch from past parties trying to crank down on the key to start for some reason.
I'm not sure if the dash needles come alive on acc position, maybe that is a way to tell?
Did Cadillac use different keys and such than other GM's? Didn't they come from Briggs & Stratton? Later 50's they had a ACC and I too would say that was 11:00 and I think there is supposed to be some sort of gate where you have to push in a bit to get it to acc. Seems like when I'm not trying it easily goes into ACC but if I want it too I can't do it. And at least on the ones I tangled with you can remove the key in ACC

I think your ignition switch is the same as my 1949's. You start the motor by pressing a button, right?
If so, there are 3 positions on the ignition switch: ACC to the left; OFF in the middle; ON to the right. I think your ignition switch is merely turned around a bit to the right in the hole in the dash it is mounted in. You'll notice there is a "collar" around the switch with little round depressions in it. This is a nut which locks the ignition switch in place. Loosen it by tapping in one of the depressions with a drift pin. Unscrew it slightly and turn the switch a bit to the left so that the key is at 12 o'clock when the key is in the middle (OFF) position. Tighten the collar with the drift pin or gently with a pliers and you are done.
Awesome! I was right! Thank you Jay!

Here is the set that came with our 55. I can't say they are original, but 1 side says GM, and the other says Briggs & Stratton.
