Title: New list of repairs just sitting in the show field
Post by: Big Fins on June 06, 2025, 05:58:01 AM
Since I got here, the second day my clock now no longer works, the drivers side seat back unlatching switch quit working and I broke the rear lamp monitor trying to get the parade boot off when the rains came yesterday.

Oh well! Now I have something to do when I get home.  :(  I was so proud that I had a 50 year old car that the clock still kept perfect time.

"When troubles come, they come in battalions." I always say a silent prayer when we've reached our destination in one of our old Cadillacs WITHOUT incident.

Sounds like the humidity got to your clock.

As for the Rear Lamp Monitor breaking, that seems to be the main problem with these plastic parts.   When I made my own rear monitor, I created a tapered base just for the reason of protecting it when using the hard boots.   The reason it is slightly different to the factory ones is that I only has a Coupe monitor, and had to incorporate the guts of that into the one I made.

Mine is made of steel, and the Aluminium "V" shaped bracket screws to the seat back, allowing me to lift it out, fit the boots, then reinstall it.

As for the Seat Back switch, seeing as both seat back latches work at the same time, no matter which door is opened, I would be looking at the wiring under the seat.   Or the Solenoid itself.

I like the idea of the removable monitor. It also saves the hard boot from getting scratched up.

This is the longest my car has ever been out of a temperature controlled environment. I guess I'll be able to try out my homemade A/C vent removal tool. The design people that put hold down screws in the ductwork should have been shot for that. It makes the job of dash cap removal very tedious.

The seat back switch, while I like things working is far down on the list. 95% of the time, I'm out in the car alone and don't remember anyone ever getting in the back seat. But it will get fixed.

Sorry to hear that John.
