Title: Bought our 1955 8 years ago
Post by: Jeff Rosansky CLC #28373 on June 10, 2025, 12:28:42 PM
Found our 1955 8 years ago in a shed.
Woke her up with a LOT of help from everyone here.
We've put 6,513 miles in her. She's left a lot of oil on the ground, but we've smiled every one of those miles.

Hopefully you can tell which pictures are before, and after.

Cheers.

Jeff,

I cannot believe that it has been eight years!!  Slow down time. Slow down.  Anyhow I recall the effort you made to purchase and revive this Cadillac. You and your son did a great job.  Hopefully it will continue to be enjoyed for decades ahead.

Noooooo!!
It's funny. Not saying I drive fast, but let's just say its fairly rare that I get passed.
I'm not crazy when I drive the 70, but I don't lollygag either. I mean if you can't hear the back barrels open, what's the point??
However, there is just something about the 55. In that car, I don't mind just sitting there (yes, in the slow lane) doing the speed limit watching people pass me by. For some reason, I'm ok with it in that car.

Yes, I drove my 1969 Caddy like your '70 and my '56 like your '55. Makes sense to me. Clay/Lexi

I drive my '49 on interstates at the speed limit.  Long distance trips to GNs too.

Both the 50 and 59 easily purr at 70 MPH.  Had the 59 up to near the factory limit.  Bias ply tires and all!

Oh I'm not saying I haven't had it faster-- Accidentally of course. But 60-65 is where she likes to run.
For some reason, I'm ok with that.

60 is the "limit" in the metro area here. If I were to go outside the area it would only be 70 here in MO. But she would still do it ok.
With that said, that's about as much as I would want to push it. All seems good, but it is still an old engine and the suspension is still designed for 70+ year old roads and with 70+ year old suspension technology.  A St. Louis style pothole at 75 probably would not be a good idea.

Tim,

Like Dirty  Harry once observed - A MAN's GOTTA KNOW HIS LIMITATIONS.

Well with that in mind with my 59, I surely needed to see the limits of the cruise control.
And oh yah - just needed to know if those fins added lift or stability - NEITHER, at least to the pegging of the speedometer - om the way to Vegas.

Have fun,
Steve B.
