Title: Wtb 1950 water pump
Post by: Cadillac Jack 82 on July 18, 2025, 12:50:04 AM

So my 50 is out and yes its 100 but she shouldnt be pegging to H.  She'll cool down when driving but sitting at a light is dicey.  Does anyone have the best source for em.  Sure there easy to find but want the best vendor who paints them too with the right color.

If you're pegging the gauge, I would call it a flow problem. As in water jacket and radiator. What are the temps when you hit the radiator with an IR thermometer? Inlet to the engine and then at the thermostat housing?

Dont have a temp gage just going off the cars gage.  Its 3/4s up and when I drive itll go back to half way.  59 did the same thing when the water pump started to fail.  Not losing any coolant either so that can be ruled out.

I bought one four months ago from Kanter Auto; their site had a 15% discount offer so $260 minus $38 with their offer.  It came with a nice gloss black paint job.  The only issue I saw was that the two lower screws on the rear cover plate were touching the timing cover so I have to change those out to a pan head style to get clearance.

It may be normal operation, there seemed to be misunderstanding back in the day as well.

I remember you've provided that in the past before.  I'm just used to the 59 staying around the first mark even when its 106.

For my pump has to be the correct type and painted the right color.  Best of the best if possible.  Although I agree with the post above about these getting hotter than normal....my experience with any Cadillac of this era is it should never go past the middle mark unless somethings wrong.
