I am not a fan of today's gasoline. To prevent vapor lock in this Texas heat I run an electric fuel pump. This helps a lot with eliminating high fuel temps at the mechanical fuel pump on the block. Secondly, I made a 1/8" heat shield out of phenolic material for the manifold. Two barrel Carter/Rochester heat shields are difficult to find. This shield greatly reduces more high temps at the carb. Phenolic is great for this. My fuel lines in the engine bay are wrapped in thermal material. I never run ethanol. Thankfully I can get ethanol free where I'm at. And of course I add all the lead substitute additives to my fuel. My car loves me for it. The carb in these pics is a parts carb. lol
I have done the following on my '49 to prevent vapor lock:
1. Use a 5 bladed fan meant for Series 75 limos in place of the stock 4 bladed fan;
2. Installed intake manifold gaskets bought from Olsen's Gaskets that blocks off the heat riser passages to the carb;
3. Use ethanol-free fuel which is available at several gas stations in my area;
4. Installed a 160 degree thermostat.
Hmmmmm. 5 bladed fan. I'm going to do that. Thanks Jay.
I have an electric pump for that reason but rub ethanol.
I don't use lead substitute, but I do run some Marvel's in the fuel.
The car seems to do better than I do in this heat tho.
Stoplights with no ac in St. Louis humidity is something for the young.
