where is the  location of VIN on 1938-48  flathead? thanks. Dave

In 1948 the VIN is stamped on the passenger's side of the engine block, just forward of the right cylinder head behind the water pump.

The VIN is also stamped on the top of the passenger side frame rail just behind the front suspension and forward of the point where the cowl is attached to the frame.

The '42-'48 VIN location is as Jay describes. '37-'41 is located on the crankcase just behind the left cylinder bank.    Harry
