Title: 1959/60 Access to heater and a/c control panels
Post by: bigoilman on July 31, 2025, 07:07:58 PM
Is removing the dash this only way to access them? I think I have a broken cable and can't slide them out the front.
It also appears that all 3 of my vacuum pods are inop.  I can reach 2 of them from behind the glove box but can't even see the 3rd one.  Dash removal for that too?  Thanks

The vacuum pods are accessed from under the hood by removing the black fiberglass panel they are bolted to, the part with the fan on it. There are wires, vacuum lines and cables running through it, so it's not a 15 minute job. Are you sure the pods are bad? It could be a vacuum issue in the controller.

Turns out that 2 of the pods are bad and one is good.  Thanks for the additional info. I'll be replacing the heater core in late October most likely so I'll replace all of it then.

As to my original question...Is dash cover removal the only access to the heater and A/C control panels?

That's how I removed mine, with the dash out. It's actually fairly easy and I believe that operation is in the repair manual.

The dash cover procedure is in the manual. Don't forget the step about removing the shift position indicator.  Also a great opportunity to lube cables and replace bulbs.
