Working on a fellow CLC member's 1970 eldorado, got the engine back in after replacing the flexplate, and part of the final steps of getting this beauty back on the road, we swapped out the starter for a reman/starter from Napa, which isn't cutting it, torque wise.
What are suggestions for a good high torque starter for this 500 ci engine, unfortunately he already turned in the likely original/previous core, otherwise we should have had that one rebuilt.
Rock Auto and Oreilly's show an ACDELCO 3361845 as appropriate, anyone have experience with this starter, or suggestions/vendor/part #'s on where to get a good starter.
I see that there is a difference between the starter for a 1970 Deville and for a 1970 Eldorado, the mounts are different, as I thought of putting my spare 1970 Deville starter in there temporarily.
The "1845" is not the one that you should use. It is essentially a Chevy starter. They used to list one (I forget the umber and they currently don't list it) they called the High Torque starter which in fact was the correct one.
Replacements are getting awful hard to find. You CAN take your starter's front end, get the longer housing and armature and build one.
