Title: Are you sure??
Post by: 76Caddy on August 18, 2025, 04:11:48 PM
I couldn't think of a good title but thought I would share what happened Friday evening.

Drove the Brougham to work and on the way home stopped at Domino's to pick up supper.  An older gentleman came in behind me and said, "that's a beautiful car" to which I replied "thanks".  A few minutes later he asked, "what year is your Eldorado"? I said it's a 1976 Fleetwood Brougham.  He said, "are you sure, I had one just like it and it was an Eldorado".  By this time my order was ready, and I said pretty sure on my way out.

Hey, you said "older gentlemen...." The grey cells start to disappear now and then.

Although, as I am replacing the hood and trunk struts on the '81 Seville. the first ones were too long, and the seller acted like I didn't know what kind of car I had as he wanted pictures, measurements, and the like to replace them. (Chinese mfg.)

The replacements I got from Amazon worked fine, and were from Turkey in a nice retail plastic hanging package. The trunk ones came later and arrived today, and will go on tomorrow afternoon at the body shop.

But way back in 1972 or so, when I was driving my 1941 6719F (one of 95) back and forth to work, I was gassing it up to drive home after closing the store, and a guy came up to comment on the car.

His final words were, "Too bad it's not a LaSalle. Then you'd really have something..."

Sorry, Tom, and the rest of you LaSalle guys, but "I don't think so!"

Back when I was a kid in the 50's, such people were called "Know it alls."
