Title: Autobody / metalshaping
Post by: Porter on January 08, 2005, 02:03:04 PM
For anyone interested , such as myself that does autobody work or just wants to learn how it is done, here is a great link.

http://metalshapers.org/tips/

Traditional autobody is becoming a lost art of sorts, salvaging existing panels, with limited parts available from salvage yards sometimes you have no choice but to restore what you have.

The new car sheetmetal is beer can thin, cheaper to just replace the panel than try to reshape it as new.

I think one of the quality features of our old beloved Cadillacs is the thick sheetmetal, you can wax the car without the panel deflecting.

Heavy duty is still better quality, always was, always will be.

Also see www.metalmeet.com. The best site Ive ever seen for metalshaping. I spend a lot of time there and still havent even scratched the surface of what they have to share.
