I have removed the engine and striped and cleaned the block. I have a couple of questons. What is the best (least destructive) way to clean the extreme carbon buildup from the pisons/valves/heads? Where can I get a replacement spring for the fuel pump? How do I know if I need a new timing chain? The old one seems fine, not much play. Should I get a new oil pump screen or can I clean the old one? If so how? Thank you all for your continued support in this effort.

Bruce, I would first soak the parts in a solvant, at least 24 houds, then let drip-dry.
Then useing a rotery brush on a bench grinder, very carefuly
remove the build-up.
As for a fuel-pump spring, try thecarburatorshop. They have a web site.
The timing chain should be replaced with every over-haul, as the OH increases the load on it.
Good Luck, Jim
