Hello to all,
As a newbie I started looking for '59-'60 Eldorado hubcaps..er...I mean "wheel coverings".   10k$ for an NOS set (no longer even available).   Seems like these are investment items if you can find them.   So far I've found a used one (so valuable that it has an NOS box).     Am I missing something here?    With today's low prices on stock restorations how long will that "stash" of Eldorado hubcaps hold it's value?   Is that real or BS?   Seems a shame that we enthusiasts of the marque don't at least have a shot at bidding on some of those.   They could be sold only as one set ea. to '59-'60 vin holders.   No hoarding or rat rod use.
Any thoughts?

PS  Are there re-pops of these?

The 1 nos set of Eldorado wheel covers I followed on ebay went for that kind of money a few years ago. I wanted just one to complete my collection of 50's Cadillac wheel covers and decided my garage wall is not the Louvre. I'll keep watching swap meets and antigue stores but I doubt it'll ever happen.

It's amazing how the price of certain parts have escalated in the 9 years I've been watching 50's Cadillacs. In 2002 i bought a nos set of wheel covers for my '57 for $650. I have seen prices approaching $2000 since then. There were 148,000 '57 Cadillacs built compared to less than 5000 '59-'60 Eldorados.

As far as I know no re-pops. It would be at least as expensive to set up and make re-pops as nos prices. They would be a difficult piece to copy. After market '57 wheel covers are available only because the 50's custom car guys love them. Then they buy just 2 for the fronts and cover the rears with skirts.

It seems I saw not long ago a posting that had the Dealer price for one those in 59/60.  $49.50 is what I'm remembering.
If that is the case, then it was a very expensive wheel cover then.

That cover has the same look as my wheel and wheel center, imagine having to try and find them.

"Bigfins" Dan in Springfield Oregon has showed me reproductions. They are outstanding, possibly even nicer than nos. Hey Dan! I have not even touched the 59 yet, I'll email in a day or so. Zonz.

John,
Thanks so much for the Eldo hubcap steerage.   Shure wish I'd snagged that cruise control!

McVey had repro for sale about 10 years ago. They were well done, a little bit too shiny and I resold a few. They had however a bad habit: the flew away! I believe that the material was thinner; it was probably the reason why they were relatively "independant".

Looks like Mcvey no longer sells '59 hubcaps and "Bigfins" may be gone.   E-mails come back as "undeliverable" and no phone number @ websiite.   Any other sugestions?
