Alan, I have the throttle lever checking tool for a 54 Cad Hydramatic - if this is the right tool I will check if it has the setting for the 41 Hydramatic. From memory it supercedes the older KM tools and has holes drilled in it for different years. Phil Whyte CLC member England also! If this is what you are looking for please email me and I will check.

Murph,

Just for fun went to the garage and looked to see if I had one.

I do, it is a throttle arm gage (their spelling). It works for Cad and others 1941 to 1951. It is a "New Britain" tool.

Somewhat busy right now. But is a complicated device. I can send a picture tomorrow if you want. Then we can chat about dimensions.

Murph,

I thought we were talking about the j3065 Throttle Lever Gauge. I looked for the J1653 and found a picture of it in the 1941 Self Starter, page 11 (I don't have a 41 shop manual and 42 lists it but does not show it). Was this guy replaced later?

Sorry for the confusion.

Tool J-1653 was only used for 1941 Hydra matic cars. It clamps on one of the rods and has an arm that tells you when the rods are adjusted to the right length to the carb and transmission. In 1942 a hole was drilled in the swivel arm and a drill bit or pin put in the hole did the same job. I checked a 1950's parts book, the part with the hole in it was being used to replace both 1941 and 1942.
If someone with a 1942 Hydra matic could tell you where to drill , you wouldn't need the tool. Warren
